Grade 8: We Finally Made it!
This is the year that each and every single one of you have been waiting for since you started Junior Kindergarten. Well, you finally made it, who knew it would come so fast. You have probably heard from other students, teachers and perhaps older siblings that grade 8 is one of the most memorable years that you will experience in elementary school. You will get some extra privileges that other grades will not get, however, as grade 8's, you will be expected to assume extra responsibility around the school, you will be expected to lead by example. I know you have probably heard it many times before, but you don't want grade 8 to be a memorable year because you were in trouble all of the time, allow it to be memorable for all of the wonderful things that we can potentially experience together.
Most students look forward to the big overnight trip that happens at the end of the year. In June, you will be participating in our traditional end of the year trip "The OTTAWA Trip". This will be a trip that you will remember for the rest of your life, another one of those positive experiences that we hope to enjoy in grade 8.
Confirmation is another big moment in grade 8, at this point in your life, you will be able to confirm the choice that your parents and godparents made for you on the day of Baptism. Throughout grade 8 you will learn so much more on the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, which will prepare you for the sacrament of Confirmation. Check this website regularly for important registration dates and for the actual date of confirmation.
As much as you have been looking forward to being "the kings of the school" in grade 8, before you know it you will be "minor niners". Preparation for high school is another big step in grade 8, in the coming months you will be choosing courses for grade 9. Staff and students from St. Maximilian Kolbe will be coming in to speak to you about your courses and the high school experience.
**Remember, together we can make grade 8 a wonderfully positive experience, but it all starts with you!**
