The Importance of Organization
Students in grades seven and eight tend to lead very busy lives, between extra-curricular activities, new subjects and extra workload, this time of life can be somewhat stressful. The key to surviving is organization. The Intermediate Division places a great deal of importance on organizational skills. Three areas of focus are; keeping a daily agenda, using duotangs properly, and developing homework routines and good time management skills.
The Agenda book is a tool that our school has been using for many years and a tool that many intermediate students should be accustomed to. It is expected that students fill out their agenda throughout the day and check it just prior to going home. A homework board is kept up to date in class and on this website. There is also a monthly calendar in the classroom to help keep students organized and to manage time wisely. These tools will allow students to not only be successful in grade 7 and 8, but moving forward into high school and throughout life.
Students will be working in duotangs throughout the year that will be provided by our school. Each duotang will have a rubric on the inside cover to help keep students organized. Students will periodically hand-in their duotangs to receive a mark for neatness, organization, and dates and titles underlined.
I do realize that many students are involved in many activities outside of school. It is expected that students are able to manage both academics and extra-curricular activities with an emphasis on their school work. Using the tools noted above, students will be able to prioritize school and activities by keeping a schedule and managing their time.
